You need to set aside a budget for your SEO marketing campaign. You may not need to hire a company to run your search campaign*, but there are several “hidden costs” that come with running an SEO campaign for your Web site.
*Because maybe you started an awesome blog about learning how to do SEO, perhaps?
Here are some steps from Kristopher B. Jones’s book Search Engine Optimization: Your Visual Blueprint for Effective Internet Marketing 2nd ed.
Some of the hidden costs that arise from your SEO campaign can be from:
- Web hosting
- Domain name
- Content creation
- Link building
Avoid free web hosting. Paid Web hosting can offer better support, unlimited data and domains, guaranteed uptime (Time where your Web site is up and running. Nothing will kill your SEO campaign more if you don’t have a Web site that your audience can get to). You can find Web hosting for about $5 to $6.
As you can tell I am not hosting my own Web site. I am using free hosting from wordpress.com. When I am ready, though, I can easily transfer my blog over to wordpress.org and find my own Web host.
Here are some of the top Web host that are compatible with wordpress:
A domain name is like your real estate on the Internet. It adds credibility and makes it easier for your audience to go find you.
As with the Web hosting, I do not own my domain as you can see on the URL myseoadventure.wordpress.com. When I pay for a domain name, which runs around $10-$20 (WordPress.com sells domain names for $15), my URL will look like myseoadventure.com.
“Quality keyword research and analysis tools can be a necessity depending on the size of the project, and these tools normally cost between $50 and $100 per month.”
There are free analysis tools to use as well that we looked at earlier with Google Adwords and Google Trends (More on both of these tools in later posts. Stay tuned!).
Content is very influential for Web site rankings. You may want to outsource to skilled copywriters. Or maybe you already have a team of them at standby waiting to churn out eye-catching content for your audience. Or maybe you just have a personal blog and are having to write everything yourself in the middle of the night…
However you want to do it, content creation is a major, major factor in search-engine rankings.
Be prepared to budget for link building. “If you choose to pay for links, the cost can be a few dollars per link to upwards of a few hundred dollars.”
Inbound links – links from other authoritative Web sites to your own Web site – is one of the most influential factors for your search-engine rankings.
